Standing In The Gap is a social-first documentary series focused on the individuals working to provide care and resources in healthcare deserts. As the Cinematographer (DP) on the project, I traveled for nine days across Virginia and Tennessee capturing interviews and vérité-style b-roll that documented the work of OB-GYNs, lawyers, doulas, hospital executives, and local volunteers who are stepping in to serve communities with limited access to healthcare.

Working with a small, agile crew, I handled multiple technical roles on set — DP, Gaffer, Grip, and Sound Mixer — allowing the production to move quickly between locations while maintaining a cinematic visual approach. Each interview was intentionally lit and framed to honor the gravity of the subject matter while ensuring the stories felt human, grounded, and accessible for social audiences.

Over the course of the project, we filmed across clinics, offices, and community spaces, capturing both the professional environments and the everyday realities surrounding this issue. The goal was to visually support the documentary’s mission: highlighting the people actively working to close gaps in care and provide life-saving support in underserved regions.

This project was produced in partnership with Runaway Train Productions, who led the series production, with post-production handled by Bandit Creative Studio. My role focused on translating the production’s vision into a cinematic and emotionally grounded visual language through lighting, composition, and observational storytelling.

Note: The clips featured on this portfolio page were edited specifically for my cinematography portfolio. They are not official edits from the documentary series and may not reflect the final branding or storytelling approach of the released project.
